Our new Home-Ed Design Academy for children aged 8-15yrs.

Welcome to our new Home-Ed Design Academy.

Please note that these workshops will only go ahead if the Government Roadmap Announcements continue as planned. If they don't we will contact you and a refund will be issued for these sessions.

Each workshop is a design and make workshop where your child/ren will work on a design project (with lots of options within it) to design a product. The product will be made in the session (apart from 3D printing which takes much longer - this will need to be collected later).

Each session is 2 hours. Each session is £10.00 for one child - places are very limited to 4 so booking is essential. It will not be possible to turn up without a ticket. Children need to be aged 8yrs+. Emergency contact details will be completed during the checkout process plus any consent for image permission. Please note that we need a minimum of two people to book for the workshop to go ahead. If only one ticket has sold, we will contact you and refund the session.

Covid-19 Information:

Due to Covid-19, places are strictly limited. The workspaces and laptop/mouse will be sanitised before the session. All participants will be asked to use hand sanitiser upon arrival and children aged 12yrs+ are asked to wear a face-covering in line with Government guidelines.

Windows have to remain open throughout the workshop so please send your child with a warm jumper and a coat if they decide to wear it.

Parents need to bring their child/ren to the FabLab and collect them at the end. Parents will need to remain outside the FabLab due to social distancing requirements in the FabLab. If there is a queue at the library main entrance to Exeter Library, speak to the member of staff on duty at the door and they will let you come through the library to the FabLab. Please ensure you adhere to 2m social distancing when you come through the library. You will need to complete Track and Trace information just inside the Library or scan the QR code with a phone.

Illness - if your child is ill for any reason please do not attend. Please let us know by email (see the email below) and we can arrange a transfer onto a different time and date.

If your child attends and contracts Covid within two weeks of the workshop ending, please email us so we can let other participants and staff know.

Dates and Projects:

Each date has a different design and make focus - some projects will use the laser cutter, dye-sublimation printing and 3D printing. See the notes below for the focus of each session:

Projects for each Workshop:

Wed 19 May - Laser-cut flowers

Create beautiful laser-cut flowers, leaves and / or seeds that can be painted (or left bare wood) and placed in a vase for a lovely display that doesn't need watering!

Wed 26 May - Laser-cut Bunting

Create your own set of wooden bunting (up to 10 small flags in a shape of your choice) including a small laser-engraved design on each one. We'll supply some cord for them to be strung and hung at home. Maybe you'll include a name (a letter on each flag) or a different design on each one - the choice is theirs!
