Date: Tues 17th November 2020
Time: 17:30 to 19:00
Location: Online event
By learning how to cut down waste using the three R’s - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle we can shrink the carbon footprint of our possessions, cut down the amount of waste going to landfill and reduce our reliance on unsustainable materials. Devon already has one of the highest recycling rates in the country and during lockdown it increased by 12%, but how can we reach 100%?
Reducing, reusing, and recycling could help Exeter transition to a local circular economy (that is restorative and regenerative) where our waste is used to make Exeter and our environment better for everyone. Reframing how we see old, damaged, obsolete or surplus items is a big step towards realising Exeter’s Net Zero ambitions.
At this Connect event we want to hear about projects being delivered by community groups, charities and organisations that support a reduce, reuse and recycle ethos. If you're based in Exeter and have a relevant initiative, please come and share your reduce, reuse, recycle project!
The type of projects that we’d love to hear from may include:
- Community share sheds or repair cafes in your local area
- Allotment food surplus schemes for local communities
- Reuse of waste materials from textiles, plastic, wood and metal off cuts to create new products
- Upcycling old furniture or soft furnishings
- Garden waste recycling
- Second hand clothes swapping and sharing
- Creative recycled art projects
As well as getting valuable feedback on your project you can also gain support, guidance and collaboration from other like-minds in Exeter!
Even if you are not involved in a project you are still very welcome to attend the event to find out what is happening and how you can support projects that will help Exeter become carbon neutral by 2030. .
- 5-minute project presentations
- Breakout room discussions
- Feedback from the breakout room discussions
When registering, please indicate if you would like to present a Reduce, Reuse, Recycling project.

About Our Connect Events
Our Connect events provide an open platform, bringing together residents, communities, local businesses, charities and city stakeholders to listen and support community-initiated projects that help Exeter work towards its ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.
Each Connect event will be framed around a key theme in which we invite change-makers to get involved by presenting their community-led projects to share knowledge and inspire future community initiatives in other wards across the city.
Our Connect events currently take place online and are hosted through the Zoom platform.
Starting with five-minute pitches and moving to tabling breakout rooms where presenters can take questions and hold discussion about their projects, we hope this format offers a creative and collaborative environment and fosters a vibrant community of Exeter change-makers.
Exeter City Futures’ Connect Events are supported by The National Lottery Community Fund.
