Organised by: Exeter City Futures
Date: Wed 20th October 2021
Time: 17:30 to 19:00
Location: Online event
We are hosting this Connect event to bring together people who are championing energy efficiency in their community, workplace, home or other places.
Changing our individual and collective energy habits can make an important contribution to the reduction of our energy use across the city.
This Connect event will be an opportunity to share and learn how people can engage with “quick win” changes to reduce the use of energy, for your school, business, charity, community group, family, or home. From changing to LED light bulbs, to turning off power switches, to implementing draught exclusion, all can have an impact on energy efficiency and lead to carbon reduction.
We are looking for Exeter’s energy champions to come and share their initiatives. We would love to hear from individuals, groups, communities, and co-workers who are delivering citizen-led initiatives that are:
- Championing the reduction of energy in your local community centre, place of worship, school, home, or work environment
- Helping residents to lower their fuel bills with energy-saving devices
- Researching or developing opportunities for community energy reduction
- Providing advice on tackling fuel poverty and how to reduce high energy bills
- Delivering educational energy and low carbon campaigns with your local community
Exeter Community Energy will present and share their work and knowledge of energy reduction quick wins. After, there are opportunities to give a short, five-minute, presentation about your energy reduction activity followed by facilitated breakout room discussion, where a small group of participants keen to explore your project further can join you to hear more. If you would like to present, you can indicate this when registering.
Even if you aren’t currently involved in an energy reduction project, or perhaps you want to learn how to be an energy champion in the community, you are still very welcome to join us. If you are interested in community energy this is a great opportunity to share best practice and network, develop new project ideas or come and find out what is happening in Exeter and support projects that will help Exeter become carbon neutral by 2030.

About Our Connect Events:
Our Connect events provide an open platform, bringing together residents, communities, local businesses, charities, and city stakeholders to listen and support community-initiated projects that help Exeter work towards its ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.
Each Connect event will be framed around a key theme in which we invite Net Zero Change Makers to get involved by presenting their community-led projects. We hope that through sharing knowledge these projects can inspire future community initiatives in other areas across the city.
Currently we will host all our 2021 Connect Events online and through the platform Zoom.
