Organised by: Exeter City Futures
Date: Wed 24th November 2021
Time: 17:30 to 19:00
Location: Online event
Led by Exeter City Futures, and supported by Exeter Culture, we will explore how art, creativity and culture plays a role in communicating, challenging, sharing and envisioning a net zero future for Exeter.
This Connect event will be an opportunity for artists, cultural and creative organisations, community organisations and groups to share initiatives, projects and activities which use creative practices to raise awareness, build conversations and highlight the key issues connected to climate and sustainability across Exeter.
Cultural and creative practices offer an opportunity to communicate, interpret, and inspire action on climate and net zero issues. From sharing and creating new environmental stories, creatively transposing complex climate information, to illustrating climate issues through theatre, visual art, film et al, art and creativity can offer a space to view and connect with new ideas, re-imagine and re-design our ways of living sustainably and enable individual and community stories and spaces to be shared, reviewed, and innovatively renewed.
We are interested to hear from Exeter’s creative practitioners, and communities who are creatively responding to our climate and environmental challenges. Whether you are a community group sharing your environmental story or an artist/creative whose work focuses on climate and environmental themes, or perhaps you are a community and artist collaborating creatively to highlight and innovate on localised net zero issues, we are keen to showcase your project.
At our Connect events we aim to bring like-minded people together in an informal setting. We would love to hear about initiatives and projects in Exeter which creatively explore climate and environmental challenges. For example:
- Artists and communities co-creating environmental projects
- Green/eco/sustainable craft, art and creative makers and initiatives
- Communities and creative practitioners working with cultural heritage to explore climate change challenges and stories
- Academic researchers, artists and community collaborations developing environmental responses
If you are interested in creative and cultural responses to our net zero challenges then this is a great opportunity to share best practice and network, gain support and potentially develop new project ideas and future collaborations. Even if you aren’t currently involved in a creative environmental project, you are still very welcome to join us to come and find out what is happening in Exeter and support projects that will help Exeter become carbon neutral by 2030.

About Our Connect Events
Our Connect events provide an open platform, bringing together residents, communities, local businesses, charities and city stakeholders to an informal gathering to listen and support community-initiated projects that help Exeter work towards its ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.
Each Connect event will be framed around a key theme in which we invite change-makers to get involved by presenting their community-led projects to share knowledge and inspire future community initiatives in other wards across the city.
Our Connect events currently take place online and are hosted through the Zoom platform.
Starting with five-minute pitches and moving to tabling breakout rooms where presenters can take questions and hold discussion about their projects, we hope this format offers a creative and collaborative environment and fosters a vibrant community of Exeter change-makers.
