Welcome to our FIRST DT TECH event by Digital Taunton and UKHO.

Ciaran Evans from UKHO

Ciaran is a Senior Data Engineer at the UKHO where for the past 8 months he’s been developing a pipeline to produce global scale datasets with satellite imagery

Ciaran will discuss how the UKHO Data Science & Data Engineering teams took the entire globe, trained a model to predict as to where mangrove forests are and then applied that model to almost 20,000 satellite images – Producing what we believe is the most up-to-date and highest resolution global dataset available.

Jon Jagger from Jaggersoft Ltd

Jon is a software consultant specialising in practice, process, test driven development and complex adaptive system-thinking. He is from Taunton but travels all over the world working with large companies using his https://cyber-dojo.org to promote deliberate practice for software developers.

In Jon’s talk entitled ‘Treating testing as an equal first-class citizen (to coding)! He will be talking about how things have evolved over 10 years with the companies now going the fastest, the ones doing the most testing. However testing can still be seen as ‘subservient’ to coding and Jon presents on why this should not be the case, with some practical tips and techniques.

⏰ Please arrive from 7pm onwards, the first talk starts at 7:30 pm and we aim to finish at 9:30 sharp.

🙋‍♀️ Our volunteers will greet you, provide you with a name badge and show you around.
