Cornish Lithium is an exciting and rapidly growing science-driven business that is using data and cutting edge technology to identify lithium deposits in Cornwall.
Huge amounts of untapped data exist in written or diagrammatical form dating from Cornwall’s long and illustrious mining heritage. The Challenge: automate the extraction of key words and features from historical mining journals and maps with a focus on helping to locate future mineral deposits in Cornwall.
Join the session to find hear Cornish Lithium explain the opportunities and obstacles around mining lithium in Cornwall, and a more detailed introduction to the data challenge covering how satellite imagery works, using existing information about landmarks and a scientific understanding of geology to inform the development of an data process for identifying potentially rich and useful deposits.
There will be time for questions and discussion after the presentation of the challenge.
After this session you can work in a group, or individually, and present your findings at a follow up event.

The idea for Data Challenge Cornwall emerged after it became clear that businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals with expertise and enthusiasm weren't aware of the open challenges in key sectors in Cornwall - and therefore couldn't participate in solving them.

All events are suitable for a general audience that has an interest and some knowledge of data analysis and tools. Students are as welcome as professionals. You don't need to be an expert, the challenges can be a great opportunity to learn.
